Love Stinks!

I first heard this line from Adam Sandler from the movie “The Wedding Singer”.  It is actually a line from a song that most people find comfort from whenever love fails them to an unimaginable degree.

“Why do we always hurt the ones we love?”  This is another lyric that I initially find silly but if one really contemplates about it, it has its deeper merit.  Older wisdom says that love always comes with pain.  That if one decides to rise (not fall, according to a UP professor) in love, he should likewise be ready to get hurt in the process.

A friend shared a story two nights ago about a guy who was about to propose marriage to his long-time gf, only to find out that the girl was having an affair with an ex-bf.  I still don’t understand why some good people are cheated on but I do understand why some people cheat.

And I think the reason is only this:  They don’t love their partners enough to keep them from doing something that may put their relationship at risk.  That is why deep ties deadened by third parties rarely come back to life. If they do, the degree or intensity of love and passion would no longer be the same again.  When the seal of trust is broken, everything follows to the pit— respect, loyalty, love, confidence, hope.

Yeah, love sometimes stinks and people we love may still hurt us no matter how much we try to keep the fire alive.  When this happens, we should never allow anyone to treat us like a piece of sh*t.  Ever again.  Otherwise, we could never rise from the fall.

It’s not even what we call pride or self-conceit.  It is simply self-respect.
