For the first time, I do not have the luxury of time to stop and think of anything related to Christmas. The angels have already started singing their way to Bethlehem and here I am, oblivious of the mounting pressure to celebrate Christmas.
In the past, I would be very busy buying and wrapping gifts by now. But not anymore. My schedule has been too tight lately that “sleeping” has now become a necessity. I also haven’t watched television for the past seventeen days. My blogging chore has taken the backseat that I get to update my social networking accounts only once a week. But hey, I am not complaining.
In life, we really have to make little sacrifices or give up a little to fill our lives with new experiences. We cannot just spread ourselves too thin; otherwise, we’d end up getting sick, frustrated, or stressed out. My life revolves right now around work, studies, and friends. Finally, a good work-life balance!
For the past two weeks, I was able to accomplish grueling workloads, academic duties, and social obligations. The latter were the best! I was able to attend the UP Baguio Alumni Homecoming last December 5, the UP SOLAIR Christmas Party on December 13, and the UP Lantern Parade on December 17. In-between, my friends and I meet after office hours for two to three-hour conversations over dinner or a bottle of wine.
I have never been this relaxed, steady, and at peace. Everything is working out almost perfectly. Having a job that suits my line of interest is good enough. Attending graduate studies at UP Diliman and having your good friends around is even better. And still being able to fulfill my social obligations despite my hectic schedule is definitely best. Really, being given the chance to juggle one over the other almost e-v-e-r-y-d-a-y is luck at its finest!
I am no Wonder Woman. I am no Supergirl (though I wish I were). But taking full control of my life and destiny to earn my much-deserved space in this world is heroic enough for someone like me who is not an angel.
